Captain Rothchild is a Texas native, born and raised in Houston. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Real  Estate from Colorado State University in 2010 and is a first-generation college graduate. In 2011, he began his J.D. at South  Texas College of Law in Houston and received his commission from Platoon Leaders Class in 2013. After passing into the Texas  State Bar, Captain Rothchild received an LL.M. in National  Security and Foreign Relations Law from The George  Washington University Law School in 2015. In 2016, he graduated from The Basic School with distinction as a member of the Commanding General’s Honor Roll. 

Captain Rothchild has served in various capacities within the DoD, including his time working for the Deputy General Counsel for International Affairs, Office of General Counsel,  Department of Defense. While there, he assisted with the completion of the DoD Law of War  Manual – a multi-decade, joint-service effort representing the legal views of the Department.  

His legal billets include civil law attorney, legal assistance attorney, defense counsel, and trial counsel. In these roles, he assisted hundreds of Marines and Sailors and tried multiple  Special and General Courts-Martial. As a command staff member, he served as the Deputy Staff  Judge Advocate of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit during its WESTPAC 19-2 deployment where it conducted exercises and operations in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and the U.S.  Central Command areas of responsibility.  

Captain Rothchild is currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Military Law at the  United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  

Captain Rothchild’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal,  Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service  Medal. In 2020, Captain Rothchild graduated from the Expeditionary Warfare School with distinction as a Distinguished Graduate.
