Library Hours and Operations
Nimitz Library is open and our semester hours are available here.
There are a number of building modifications in place including reduced, distanced seating, limited use of the elevators, fewer restrooms, up/down only stairwells, and availability of cleaning supplies. Changes are in effect as a result of COVID-19 and a significant renovation to the library’s main floor.
The U.S. Naval Academy is closed to visitors. Library use is only available to those on the Yard.

Accessing Physical Materials: Available
The library is open and physical materials can be accessed as normal. The library will continue to offer lobby pickup or delivery to midshipmen in ROM status as requested using this form.
To limit contact with staff, the library is offering self-checkout to users. Instructions for self-checkout can be found on the library’s first deck or here.
Library staff can provide scanned articles or book chapters from items we own to midshipmen and/or faculty through Local Article Delivery. If off campus, you must be connected for off-campus access to log in. Questions about Local Article Delivery should be directed to ILL@usna.edu.
Research Help: Available
At this time, research help is available to the USNA community in a variety of formats. Librarians are available via the library’s chat service during the hours below:

Course Materials Support: Available
Physical Course Reserves are not available this semester. However, library staff are happy to work with faculty to find ways to make course reserves available digitally, if necessary. Requests for course reserves should be directed to email@example.com.
Faculty can also request that we digitize A/V materials from our collection for use in a course. Requests for this service should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Questions about locating course materials, ebooks, and other course related resources should be directed to the appropriate subject specialist librarian.
Information Literacy Instruction: Available
Due to the pandemic, as well as the space limitations due to the renovations of Nimitz Library, the Research and Instruction Librarians will deliver all library instruction virtually for the Fall 2020 semester. Nimitz Librarians will offer a variety of options for library instruction tailored to class needs, including but not limited to synchronous, asynchronous, small group research consults, online tutorials and more. Interlibrary Loan: Available
Nimitz LIbrary staff will continue to process interlibrary loan requests for book, articles and book chapters, though we may experience delays as libraries across the globe continue to offer limited service. Users must be logged in for off-campus access to use interlibrary loan. Questions should be directed to ILL@usna.edu.
Users with overdue Interlibrary Loan books in their possession should return them to the library as soon as possible. If you have circumstances preventing this please contact ILL@usna.edu.
Due Dates Extended Until 25 September 2020
Users should return their books to Nimitz Library as soon as possible. However, in consideration of the staggered reform of the Brigade, overdue notices for books will not be issued until 29 SEP 2020. Users should return books to the library using the book drop located outside the library’s front doors or in the vestibule near the library entrance. For health and safety reasons, library staff will not be processing returned materials immediately. If you have circumstances that prevent you from returning overdue materials please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss options
Special Collections & Archives (SC&A): Appointment Only and Digital Collections
The SC&A Reading Room is open by appointment only. Appointments may be requested by contacting Dr. Jennifer Bryan at email@example.com or x36904. Digitized SC&A materials are freely accessible, and SC& staff remain via email or telephone for research help. The SC&A web page provides links to digital collections, online finding aids, and contact information for SC&A staff.
Check Out for Leaving USNA: Available
To complete the Library portion of your USNA check out sheet please contact Nicholas Brown. If you have any items from Nimitz or Interlibrary Loan you will be directed to return them by placing them in the book drop outside of the Nimitz front doors. If you are unable to physically access USNA alternate arrangements will be made. If a signable check out sheet is provided a digital signature will be given, others will receive an email verifying that your library account is clear.
Recreational Resources: Available
The Library offers a collection of games for midshipmen to borrow - find them in the Nimitz lobby! No need to check them out, you can borrow and return them anytime. The Navy MWR Digital Library offers a wealth of resources via CAC access, including audio and ebooks from Overdrive, streaming video from Kanopy, and language training from Mango. In addition, the popular reading collection is available on the first deck of Nimitz.
