Interview and Selection Process

MDC staff review all submitted applications, and the most qualified applicants are invited to the MDC for an in-person interview. This interview is 60 minutes with 2-3 MDC staff members. Interviewees are also encouraged to speak with our current externs for any questions about the program. If our externs are present and available on the day of your interview, there may be an opportunity to speak in person. Otherwise, contact information of our current externs will be provided for email or phone contact.

Once externs are selected, a Memo of Understanding (MOU) with your university will be initiated (if one does not already exist or needs to be updated). As the USNA is a federal military setting, the MOU is necessary prior to the start of your externship. This will be coordinated by the MDC, but externs may need to be involved in reminding their training directors to complete the necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
