Meet the Current Members of the Team!

August Roberts

August does Parkour. PARKOUR!

About me:

I’m pretty lucky being a runner from Colorado, which is by far the best state in the Union. As you can probably tell from the above image, I like to pretend I have other athletic abilities besides running. This was actually taken on Spring Break tour with the USNA Men’s Glee Club in Los Angeles on the muscle beach at Santa Monica, thus why I am wearing long sleeves. My dad, an Air Force Master Sergeant, instilled the discipline needed to succeed at the Academy, and my mom pushed me academically so I could pursue my desired path.

Why did you join marathon?

I guess I just had to be different. My goal is to become one of those crazy old guys who lives in the mountains and does ultramarathons.

Most remarkable running achievement:

I ran into Galen Rupp at Nike World HQ, which I consider an accomplishment. My running career has had many moments that were personally remarkable, but I think the best is yet to come.

Favorite ice cream flavor:

Huckleberry, because it makes me sound well traveled and healthy.

If I could go back in time, I would…

Stock up on Schezuan sauce and make a fortune selling it in the present.

Class year: 2/C

Bert Fletcher

About Me:

I am a native of North Florida. For those of y'all who aren't in the know, the further North you go in FL, the more Southern it gets. I'm just a country boy who is huntin', fishin', and lovin' every day. I reckon I don't hunt as much as I used to, but there are some pretty big squirrels hangin' around that might make a good dinner sometime...

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
I ran my first marathon in high school and loved the idea of conquering something as big as 26.2 miles of running. I also just like going places, and running is a great way to see the world.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
I ran my first marathon with three of my cross-country teammates from high school. It was a lot of fun beating a challenge with my friends, but we also developed a lot as athletes. We ran a 3:25, and plan to qualify for Boston eventually.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Strawberry

If I could go back in time, I would...
Go on one of the Apollo missions. It would be pretty neat to check out the moon, see what's shakin' up there.

Class Year: 4/C

Brendan Fish

Kangaroos are Brendan's Best Friends (jk we are)

About Me:
My name is Brendan Fish and I’m from Columbia, Missouri. I love the mountains, a nice sunset, and the beach, basically anything outside. I want to be a jet pilot and I think space is fascinating, which is why I’m an aerospace engineering major. Because I’m an Eagle Scout, I’m also involved in NESA, as well as Midshipman Action Group, VT-NA, and Catholic Choir.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
I really enjoy running and the opportunity it gives me to grow closer with people, explore, and experience the outdoors. And, sadly, I was not gifted with inhuman swimming skills so triathlon team wasn’t really an option.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
My most remarkable running achievement was definitely when my high school cross country running group ran to get ice cream during practice the day before the race, as part of tradition of course. In all seriousness, my 20 mile training run last year at 7:05 pace was one of my bigger achievements.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Extreme Moose Tracks

If I could go back in time, I would...
Spend more time in the mountains

Class Year: 2/C

Chase Standage

Chase Standage

About Me:
I've always loved running and flying, but since the first is a whole lot cheaper, I do a whole lot more of it. Being from Southern California, I'm still getting used to the idea of "freezing temperatures" and ice on the roads, but it's not all that bad.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
I spent my high-school years running cross country and track, but those glory days of speed are over, so distance is my new friend. I've always been interested in doing marathons, and now I finally have the time to pay into that interest.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
I was pretty stoked to hit 17:13 at our season-opening 5k for my senior year of cross country. Exactly one year prior, I was struggling to break a single 6 minute mile, so running 3.1 consecutive miles at 5:33 pace blew my own expectations away for the season.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Good ol Mint n' Chip

If I could go back in time, I would...
Take a trip down to Cape Canaveral for a Saturn V launch and hunker down by a TV-set a few days later to watch the landing.

Class Year: 3/C

Garrett Yu

Garrett wears sunglasses inside

About Me:
My name is Garrett Yu, although you probably already realized that when you clicked on my name to view my bio. Thanks for that by the way! Anyways so about me: I was born in New Jersey. I moved to Hong Kong. Then after that was Beijing. Then Virginia. The Paris. Then Florida. So where am I from? I’m not really sure I guess all of those places combined maybe? I like to run. Which I guess makes sense since I’m on this team. I ran track and cross country in high school. I can speak French and Chinese pretty well and I took two semester of Spanish online so I guess you can say I’m fluent (just kidding). Used to be a theater geek and loved to sing and act. I still love to sing, especially in the shower, but unfortunately I’m not very good HA. I am very outgoing once you get to know me and I love life! My main motivator is my family. They’ve always been there to love and support me and there’s no shot I would be here without them.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
Who doesn’t love not being able to feel their legs? I just love running. It’s a great way to clear my head and just burn off any anger or frustrations I might have. It also challenges me and I like to beat challenges; with running though, you can always get better and faster so it’s like an endless challenge.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
I think my most remarkable running achievement is the first marathon I ever ran: Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, PA in October 2016. It was just a huge accomplishment for me because up until that point I don’t thing I had ever run more than 10 miles at one time!

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
It’s so hard to choose ya know? I would probably say my favorite flavor is toasted coconut, salted caramel, cake batter, chocolate strawberry swirl, coffee, peanut butter oreo, strawberry cheesecake, key lime pie, cookie dough, rocky road, or mint chocolate chip.

If I could go back in time, I would...
Relive Plebe Summer because that was the best time of my life.

Class Year: 2/C
Grace Lane

I'm on a boat! (jk Grace is tho)

About Me:
I am from Duluth, MN. I grew up Nordic skiing and rowing. My favorite places in the world are boating on Lake Superior and hiking and exploring Minnesota.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
I always ran in high school to cross-train for other sports. My mom used to run marathons and triathlons, so I thought why not carry on the family legacy. I love getting to travel and race in new places with the team.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?

My greatest running achievement was qualifying for Boston at the Gettysburg marathon last spring.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Chocolate peanut butter

If I could go back in time, I would...
Not eat cookies at mile 2 of my first marathon...and maybe train for it too.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
Having done cross country and track in high school, I missed being part of a team and running with a good group of guys and gals. It is a perfect way to stay in shape, participate in local races, and give back to the community through volunteer events.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
During my senior year of high school, breaking 5 minutes in the mile, 11 minutes in the two-mile, and 18 minutes in the 5K were all big accomplishments for me. Also, after my senior year, to my surprise, I won my age division in my town’s July 4th road race. Not thinking I had a chance of winning, I left before the awards were distributed, and thus my one chance of fame and a medal were left on the table. My greatest moment as a member of the marathon team was running sub-3 hours and qualifying for the Boston Marathon in my first ever marathon.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Fresh Maine Blueberry

If I could go back in time, I would...

About Me:

I love running, backpacking, canoeing, and anything outdoors. I have run in the Andes Mountains, the Sierras, all through the Appalachians, and on every trial I can find. Life is awesome.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
I love the competitive and fun atmosphere of running long distances and sharing my love for running with others.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
As an eighth grader, I ran a 15:17 5K and broke the all-time national record for 14-year-old boys.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Black Raspberry

If I could go back in time, I would...
If it was the 80s, I’d bring my family and stay there!

Class Year: 1/C

Niki Roxbury

Niki likes running apparently

About Me:

I’m from the Cherry Capital of the World, Traverse City, MI (also the best state in the Union, tied with Texas). Due to growing up with 6 months of winter throughout the year, I also love to cross country ski, not to be confused with the lazy version of skiing, AKA downhill. Other hobbies of mine include eating German food and

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?

I love to run, and more specifically I love to run slow for prolonged periods of time, so marathon seemed like a good fit. Also for the post race food.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?

Like I said I am a slow runner and new to racing so pretty much every race is a PR (sad I know.)

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?

Moomers Cherries Moobilee (look it up)

If I could go back in time, I would...

Go back to the future.

Class Year: 2/C
Ray Gerrety

Ray near a bus

About Me:
I'm from Anchorage, Alaska. If you tune into Deadliest Catch, Alaska State Troopers, or Alaskan Bush People you’d definitely find a truly accurate representation of how I live my life. At the Academy I’m an Ocean Engineer Major. I enjoy a good cup of coffee (many really), free time (none really), finishing my homework at a reasonable hour (doesn’t happen), and getting plenty of sleep (in my nonexistent dreams).

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?
Last year I bought a GPS watch and it sets daily step counts for me. Being part of the team is merely a means to an end.

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?
Last year I got first place for my age group for the Charm City 20 Miler.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Chocolate Peanut Butter

If I could go back in time, I would...
I'd probably convince Ernest Flagg to add escalators into his designs for Bancroft Hall.

Class Year: 1/C

Victoria Laveck

Vic Running

About Me:

I am from Marriottsville, MD, so I grew up less than an hour away from the Academy. I love hiking, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends. Fun fact: I have never seen the Pacific Ocean.

Why did you join marathon / Why do you enjoy marathon team?

I have always been a naturally good runner, but never ran cross country or track in high school. I played lacrosse from 4th grade to freshman year of college, and when I decided to stop playing, I knew it was time to move on to something new like running. The challenge of running a marathon seemed like a great change in pace (lol running puns), and the marathon team has always been super inviting and encouraging!

Most remarkable running achievement? Have you ever beaten a goal, won a race, or gotten a PR?

My greatest achievement to date was placing 1st in my age group for the Metric Marathon.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?

Butter Pecan with Brown Sugar
