Topological Orbit EquivalenceMaria Isabel CortezSantiago University, ChileTime: 03:45 PM
View Abstract
Two dynamical systems are orbit equivalent if there is a one to one correspondence between their orbits. If this correspondence respects the topological structure of the systems, we say that they are topological orbit equivalent. In this talk we introduce the concept of orbit equivalence and some interesting algebraic invariant for this property.

Automorphisms of Free Group FactorsProf. Alexis AlevrasUSNALocation: CH320Time: 03:45 PM
View Abstract
One of the fundamental questions in non-commutative ergodic theory is the classification of the automorphisms of a von Neumann algebra up to outer conjugacy. I will discuss the proof, due to John Philips, that the space of outer conjugacy classes of automorphisms of the factor of the free group on infinitely many generators is not countably separated.

Crossed product constructions in operator algebra theoryChris RamseyUniversity of VirginiaTime: 12:00 PM
View Abstract
I will develop a theory of crossed products that allows for a locally compact group to act on an arbitrary operator algebra, not just a C*-algebra. This is joint work with Elias Katsoulis.

UHF Factors, Dynamical Properties, and a Theorem of Powers. Part IIProf. Mitch BakerUSNALocation: CH320Time: 03:45 PM
View Abstract
We present an old result proved by Powers and used in his famous paper on UHF algebras in order to compare the concepts of ergodicity and strong mixing in Dynamical Systems to a kind of asymptotic factorization of states in a non-commutative setting.
