Prof. Patrick Caton's EM461 Field Trip

On November 14, Assoc. Prof. Patrick Caton took his 1/C elective course in Engines to the Mack/Volvo engine manufacturing plant in Hagerstown, MD and the state-of-the-art $50 million engine test facility located there. The 16 1/C midshipmen toured the facility and talked with administrators and employees about how they produce the large, heavy-duty diesel engines ranging in size from 7 to 13 liter displacement. The trip helps bring together many course concepts of the Engines class, including engine design and emissions control.
