CDR Schedel's PhD Dissertation
CDR Schedel is NAOE's most recent PhD awardee, having defended her dissertation in June 2015 and received her diploma in August 2015 in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland. Her dissertation research focused on the challenges of sea level rise, particularly as it pertains to naval installations. She developed the ISLA tool to analyze the future economic effects of sea level rise, using decision tree theory, depth-damage curves, and probabilities of future flooding. Her methodology combined her experience as a Naval officer with the subjects she teaches at USNA: Engineering Economics, Project Management and Ocean Engineering Design.
