Dave Kriebel's ASCE Tsunami Loads
Professor Kriebel is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) task committee on Tsunami Loads and Effects. The committee is developing a new chapter on tsunami loads for the ASCE 7 Standard "Minimum Loads on Buildings and Other Structures," which is widely adopted in building codes and standards around the U.S. and around the world. The new chapter will enable engineers to design large commercial buildings and critical infrastructure such as hospitals and emergency operations centers in tsunami-prone areas to resist the tsunami-induced wave and debris loads. This work is a follow-on to Professor Kriebel's post-tsunami field investigations in Japan following the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.
