Naval Academy Science and Engineering Conference
13 - 15 November 2016
The U.S. Naval Academy, a leading institution of higher education with strong programs and emphases in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), will host an annual conference to bring policy makers and science advisors together with university faculty and students to meet and discuss significant science and engineering issues and challenges.
The conference provides a forum to bring together the nation's future Navy and Marine Corps officers with their peers from other colleges and universities, both civilian and military, from across the country.
This student-run conference aims to provide a forum in which the student participants engage in discussion and research on some of the key scientific and technical challenges facing the nation and the world. This year's conference is titled
Science, Technology, and Sustainability
The format of the conference is as follows: On the first day of the conference, Sunday, Nov 13th, subject matter experts will present their views on the current state of our understanding in the three conference themes: a) Energy and Alternative Fuels, b) Cyber Physical Systems, and c) Water and Sustainability, pointing us to some of the challenges and open problems we face in each area. Following these presentations, the student participants will select one of the three themes and spend the remainder of the conference in discussions and research on the challenges presented. On the final day of the conference, Tuesday morning, Nov 15th, the teams of the students associated with each of the three topics will present a summary of their findings.
Because of the working nature of this conference, it is desirable that the attendees participate in the entire conference.
The conference attendees will also have the unique opportunity to hear from three distinguished speakers, listed below, about their perspectives on the main themes of the conference. In addition, a special Poster Session offers all student participants the opportunity to engage in conversations and activities about their own personal research interests.
Slides from our Subject Matter Expert presentations are now available:
Sandra McLellan - Water and Sustainability
Rajeev Alur - Cyber Physical Systems
Laura Schaefer - Energy and Alternative Fuels
