STATEMENT BY THE 63RD SUPERINTENDENT OF THE U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY

POSTED ON: Wednesday, June 3, 2020 7:28 PM by mediarelations@usna.edu

The following is attributable to Vice Adm. Sean S. Buck, 63rd Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, in a message sent to the Brigade of Midshipmen and all U.S. Naval Academy faculty, staff, and coaches, in regard to the recent turbulent events in our Nation.

We are a team. A team in which every single member counts, is respected and treated with dignity, and is a valued player instrumental in our success. I firmly believe that all members of the USNA team contribute to our mission success, and I am personally committed to providing an inclusive environment that embraces every quality brought to the table. The strength of our Academy comes from our strong foundation, built from the diversity found within our ranks.

I ask that you call to mind the words we are expected to live by as Sailors, Marines and Navy Civilians, the core values of our Department of the Navy -- honor, courage, and commitment -- and the mission of our United States Naval Academy... Nowhere is discrimination tolerated in any of those values.
