POSTED ON: Thursday, March 25, 2021 9:43 AM by mediarelations@usna.edu

A big congratulations to Professor Clementine Fujimura who is our 2021 recipient of the Civilian Faculty Service Excellence Award!

As the sole anthropologist at the Naval Academy, Professor Clementine Fujimura has served the Naval Academy community extensively since 1993, supporting the mission in creating adaptable, successful officers who will lead a diverse Navy and Marine Corps at home and abroad. She has proven indispensable in the development of cross-cultural competence among midshipmen in the Languages and Cultures Department, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, on the Yard as a co-creator and leader of the new Foreign Area Studies Major, and as a member of a variety of other mission-critical programs.

She has developed much of the coursework in Foreign Area Studies and currently teaches three of the essential classes, as well as language classes in German and Russian. She has supported the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, the Leadership Ethics and Law Department, and the International Programs Office. And she has worked tirelessly to support faculty and staff in their pursuit of success at USNA as a lead in the Cross-Cultural Competence Workshop for Faculty, and coordinator of the mentorship program in her department.
