Faculty Visit PSU/ARL Deep Ocean Test Facility

POSTED ON: Friday, December 15, 2017 8:00 AM by LT Alexander Laun, USN

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, faculty members from the Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering (NAOE) Department visited the Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Laboratory (PSU/ARL) Deep Ocean Test Facility (DOTF) in Annapolis, Maryland.  DOTF is a unique undersea engineering design/test facility capable of simulating submerged pressures up to 27,000 FT.  In addition to supporting a variety of research efforts for the United States Navy, DOTF provides extensive consultation and technical analysis for the offshore oil/gas industry, as well as commercial unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) manufacturers.  Given the proximity to USNA, the NAOE Department is truly excited for future research/collaboration efforts with DOTF to improve structural designs for a variety of subsea systems, including future submarine and UUV technologies.  The NAOE Department would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Chris Baumler (DOTF Chief Engineer) and his team for hosting an incredible visit!
