October is National Energy Action month, and few organizations are more keenly aware of this than the Federal Government and its Armed Services. The Department of the Navy's theme in 2015 is "Power-Presence," emphasizing the role energy plays in enabling Navy and Marine Corp. forces to power the equipment, vessels, and facilities that enable them to maintain a forward presence across the globe. One aspect that contributes to responsible management of energy is consumption by the end users. In support of this awareness campaign, Naval District Washington hosted an "Energy Biggest Loser" competition that challenged supporters to submit posters and videos that relay this important message.
Midshipmen studying Naval Architecture submitted energy awareness posters and videos, and two groups received 1st place in their category. Midshipmen Third-Class Cori Sullivan and Lynette Sivells created a poster providing facts and useful conservation tips about everyday activities from transportation to eating. Midshipmen Third-Class Ryan Iverson, Noe Lovera, and Karl Flynn produced a short video illuminating the daily choices Midshipmen face living on base.
Congratulations to all of the winners! They were recognized on Naval District Washington's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NavDistWash/
