Mini-STEM Event at USNA for Chicago Students

Forty-two high school students, from Phoenix Military Academy and ITW David Speer Academy in Chicago, visited the U.S. Naval Academy as guests of the Office of Admissions, and participated in a mini-STEM event presented by the USNA STEM Center on Friday, March 24, 2017.
Midshipmen escorted the students on a tour of academic and laboratory spaces, including a visit to the planetarium. The students participated in a variety of interactive, hands-on modules, including a "Mission to Mars" engineering design challenge, and an investigation of wind energy. Support was provided by STEM midshipmen Samantha Nourse, Aaron Smith, Joshua Shamrakov, Benjamin Lau, Mary Campbell and Lizzie Lee. STEM midshipmen, Abbey Taylor, Maddie Reynolds, Josh Hanna, Jane Kirkham, Erika Hoffman, and Mike Kelly facilitated the activities led by STEM Center instructors, Jenn da Rosa and Rachel Fees.
