In collaboration with the Office of Admissions, the USNA STEM Center visited the Detroit area on Oct 26 and 28, 2017, providing hands-on activities to students at the General Motors Tech Center and Wayne State University Upward Bound Program.
MIDN Sharat Nemani, Svetla Walsh, Jordan Rushing, Abbey Taylor, Dustin Carwile, Michelle Tran, Noah Rodmann, and Nikola Pejovic, along with Professors Brad Barrett and Mark Murray, provided sessions on hydraulics and fluids, chemistry, rockets and flight, and infrared sensors and temperature.
Commenting on one of the visits, Professor Brad Barrett said, "This was my first exposure to the Upward Bound program. I was very impressed by the curiosity and eagerness of the students to come to Wayne State University on a Saturday morning to learn about STEM. Our Midshipmen were excellent in their engagement with the Upward Bound students, teaching them about hydraulics, water chemistry, radiation, and kinematics via fun interactive modules. This new partnership between USNA STEM Center, USNA Admissions, Wayne State University and Upward Bound benefited everyone involved.”
