On February 23, in collaboration with the Office of Admissions, the USNA STEM Center hosted about 30 high school students from Chicago's Phoenix Military Academy. Midshipmen Lani Davis, Jane Kirkham, Maddie Reynolds, Ken Hackworth and Pablo Flores acted as group guides and team leaders. Midshipmen Patrick McMahon, Dustin Carwile, Gabi Evans, Abbey Taylor, and Ty Clark facilitated the modules along with faculty members John Schedel and Brad Barrett.
CDR Schedel engaged all with hands-on activities in buoyancy and hull design in the hydromechanics laboratory and Prof Barrett excited the students with activities in structural integrity and storm chasing in the aerodynamics lab. The visiting students traveled by bus to USNA, first stopping for a tour of the Pentagon and planned a visit to the Smithsonian museums for later in their weekend trip.
