The USNA STEM Center participated in the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering Expo Day held in Petco Park on Saturday March 2, 2019. Prof Mark Murray along with six midshipmen, MIDN 2/C Dustin Carwile, MIDN 2/C Annie Dunigan, MIDN 2/C Josh Engler, MIDN 2/C August Will, MIDN 3/C Kam Chumley-Soltani, and MIDN 3/C Mark Humes, manned the USNA STEM Booth, one of over 130 participant booths, to support the family friendly festival that was attended by an estimated 30,000 members of the community.
The interactive science and engineering modules presented by the USNA booth included construction of straw rockets and hoop gliders, programmable line-following robots, lather prints, logic puzzles, and fluids principles.
MIDN 2/C Annie Dunigan shared, "The USNA STEM booth at the San Diego Science Expo was a huge success! It was motivating to see so many young kids get interested in STEM activities and be excited to learn more. I wish I had access to these sorts of events when I was younger, and I could've discovered my passion even earlier!"
