Educators from across Hawaii attended a collaborative workshop offered in June by the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, and the USS Battleship Missouri Memorial on Ford Island, Honolulu. The three day program was developed with the USNA STEM Center and focused on project-based learning using multidisciplinary STEM topics and engineering design. Modules were presented by USNA STEM faculty in mechanics and motion, hydraulics, sensors and circuits, programming and robotics, corrosion and electrochemistry, aviation, space technology, and physics, as well as in engineering applications as related to the historical development of defense technology. Additional emphasis was placed on building the STEM community of teachers and museum personnel in the local area. A similar program was offered to educators in Hilo, Hawaii, at the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center.
