The USNA STEM Center partnered with Maryland Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) to provide two days of engaging STEM activities to over 400 students on November 7 and 13 at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, MD. Students came from 22 different elementary schools in six Maryland counties.
About 30 midshipmen volunteered at each event, leading hands-on activities in topics including robotics, applied math, physics, chemistry, cryptography, hydraulics, hydromechanics, energy and circuits, and engineering design. Midshipmen introduced students to STEM concepts, connecting the content to real-world applications and STEM careers. Additionally, teachers from the same schools participated in a parallel educators workshop including an introduction to engineering design.
