Building STEPS STEM Event

POSTED ON: Wednesday, March 24, 2021 12:00 AM by Sarah Durkin

On March 24, the USNA STEM Center hosted a hands-on virtual session for Building STEPS Baltimore, attended by twenty-one 11th graders. Supply kits were provided in advance so students could participate in activities in a remote setting. Thirteen midshipmen led students in interactive activities in cryptography, properties of water, and hydraulics.

Building STEPS provides high school students with opportunities for exposure and support necessary for college and career success. They have partnered with fifteen Baltimore City high schools to find rising juniors with academic potential. Almost all Building STEPS students are expected to be the first in their family to earn a college degree and many are the first to graduate from high school. Nearly 80% of Building STEPS students earn a college degree.
