Maryland Regional SeaPerch Virtual Competition

POSTED ON: Saturday, April 10, 2021 12:00 AM by Patricia Meinhold

The U.S. Naval Academy STEM Center hosted the 2021 Maryland Regional SeaPerch Virtual Competition. Teams were asked to submit a 5-page paper detailing their build this spring of a SeaPerch ROV, whether the build was actual, computer simulated, or theoretical. Teams had to submit and work within budget constraints, and work together within the Covid-19 meeting restrictions of their jurisdiction. Some teams also submitted optional items such as videos, to demonstrate their accomplishments this season.

The culminating event of interviews held on April 10, 2021 were judged by 22 USNA STEM Midshipmen. Special thanks to LT Yvonne Armstrong of the USNA Economics Department for acting as Facilitator along with STEM Center faculty and staff, CAPT Joe McGettigan, Dr. Sarah Durkin, Prof Christine Maceo, Patricia Meinhold, and Lou Cox.

The Midshipmen Judges and Facilitators were all impressed with the attitude, aptitude and perseverance of the team members in this unusual year and unique competition. Winning teams will be invited to move on to the SeaPerch International Virtual Challenge which will be held June 4 - 5, 2021.
