The Office of Naval Research piloted Naval Horizons in 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Naval Horizons introduces students to cutting-edge science and technology topics that impact the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp, inspiring them to consider a STEM career. USNA STEM faculty assisted ENS Annie Dunigan (Class of 2020), MIDN Luke Murphy, and MIDN Mitch Jorgensen in producing engaging videos for Naval Horizons in Navy-relevant topics such as fluids and flight, parachute (engineering) design, and steganography. Student participants watch the videos and submit an essay response that is judged by Navy scientist and engineers.
