On December 16, the USNA STEM Center presented a STEM Day at Towson University for Building STEPS Baltimore, attended by 50 high school students from Baltimore City Public Schools. Topics included biotechnology, structures, and robotics, led by USNA STEM faculty and staff, Joe McGettigan, Sarah Durkin, and Lou Cox.
Building STEPS provides high school students with opportunities for exposure and support necessary for college and career success. They have partnered with fifteen Baltimore City high schools to find rising juniors with academic potential. Almost all Building STEPS students are expected to be the first in their family to earn a college degree and many are the first to graduate from high school. Nearly 80% of Building STEPS students earn a college degree.
