Spring STEM Educator Training

The USNA STEM Center hosted the Spring Stem Educator Training Workshop on February 12, 2022 with sessions including easy to implement, project-based activities in science, engineering and math topic areas with real-world relevance. The professional development workshop is offered once each semester for K-12 teachers from the local region, and is sponsored by DoD STEM, the Office of Naval Research, and the Naval Academy Foundation. 74 teachers from 53 schools in Maryland, Virginia, D.C., New Jersey, North Carolina attended the Spring workshop. 

The event was facilitated by 10 faculty and staff, including Joe McGettigan, Sarah Durkin, Pat Meinhold, Lou Cox, Christine Maceo, Chris Brown, Mark Murray, Adam Pegues, Gina Henderson and Andrew Muller, with instructional support from 17 midshipmen. They led sessions in topics including: Biotechnology, Storm Chasers, Bridge Building, Circuits & Arduino, Password Hacking, Archimedes & Ship Stability, and Fibonacci. Educators received curriculum and supplies along with training in project-based learning methodology.
