Traffic Fatality At U.S. Naval Academy

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—A midshipman was found dead after an automobile accident Sunday, Feb. 16.
An automobile was discovered Sunday afternoon in College Creek near the Nimitz library on Naval Academy grounds. An Anne Arundel County Fire Department Dive Team was dispatched to the scene to search the vehicle, and discovered a body underwater near the seawall. The victim’s body was recovered from the water late Sunday evening and identified as a Naval Academy midshipman. The victim’s family has been notified. In consideration of the family, we are withholding the victim’s identity until 24 hrs after the notification of the next of kin. The vehicle was recovered this morning and is being examined by NCIS and Naval Support Activity Annapolis Police as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Naval Academy family is obviously heartbroken by this tragic loss. Additional details will be released as they become available.
