Major John B. Naughton, USMC
Major John B. Naughton attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations.
Upon graduating from the Naval Academy, Major Naughton was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, and reported to The Basic School. After completing The Basic School and the Combat Engineer Officer Course, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 in Beaufort, South Carolina.
He completed his first fleet assignment with MWSS-273 from 2006 to 2009. During this time, he deployed twice to Al Anbar and Ninewa provinces in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; once as Combat Engineer Platoon Commander and once as Engineer Company Commander.
In June 2009, Major Naughton began Foreign Area Officer training in Monterey, California. After graduating the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master of Arts in Security Studies in June 2010, and the Defense Language Institute course in Modern Standard Arabic in July 2011, he was assigned to U.S. Embassy Tunis, Tunisia in November 2011 in order to conduct immersion training. After seven months in Tunis, he volunteered to augment the Marine Corps Training Mission-United Arab Emirates from June to October 2012. While serving in the UAE, he filled the billets of military advisor for an Emirati Presidential Guard mechanized infantry battalion and combat engineer company in Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai.
In December 2012, Major Naughton executed orders to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and assumed command of Bridge Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion. In March 2013, he detached from 8th Engineer Support Battalion, and attached to II Marine Expeditionary Force Advisor Training Cell for pre-deployment training with a brigade-level Security Force Assistance Advisor Team. In October 2013, he deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan, where he served as the Garrison Support Unit Advisor and Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer. He redeployed in May 2014, and assumed command of Engineer Support Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion in June 2014. In June 2015, he executed orders to the United States Naval Academy where he serves as an Instructor of Political Science.
