Safety Considerations:

(1) Ensure lines do not become tangled.


General Situation:

Assume the foreguy is rigged to the outboard end of the pole and either single or double lead aft.


Required Positions:


Sequence of Events:

(1) Rig one large snatch block on the port and starboard toe rail just aft of the midships stanchion.

(2) Each afterguy (typically red fleck line with a Sparcraft shackle on one end) goes forward from the cockpit , through the snatch block, outside the lifelines to the pulpit/lifeline.

(3) Spinnaker sheets (typically blue fleck line with a Sparcraft shackle on one end) are rigged from the pulpit outboard of everything, to the sprecher blocks hanging from the stern pulpit, through the large sheave to the secondary winch.  Remember to connect the guy shackle to the sheet shackle so that in light air you may disconnect the guy to reduce the weight on the clew of the spinnaker.

(4) Following the decision as to which gybe the spinnaker will be set on, take the pole out of the deck chocks and install it at the mast.  Remember to ease the foreguy.  Take the topping lift forward ensuring it is clear; lead it under the jib sheet if there will be another tack before the set.

(5) Attach the spinnaker turtle to the lifelines on what will be the leeward side when the spinnaker is set.  Place what will be the working guy in the jaws of the pole, lead it around the headstay, and attach it to the forward clew of the spinnaker.  Ensure the lazy sheet stays on top of the pole.  Attach what will be the working sheet to the after clew of the spinnaker.  Select either spinnaker halyard and, ensuring it is clear, take it outside of the jib and attach it to the spinnaker head. 

(6) Recheck that the sheets, halyard and topping lift are clear.


Note: Remember that the spinnaker flies outside or all other sails; take this into consideration when rigging lines.
