USNA Sigma Xi Upcoming Activities
Several seminars in science and engineering with prominent speakers from the Washington, DC area will be given each academic year. The Chapter will meet within the U.S. Naval Academy at a location announced to members in advance by email and other media. Normally, meeting will commence with a social period at 11:45 a.m. and the seminar at 12:15 p.m. Please contact Chapter Officers for information concerning upcoming seminars. Sigma Xi invites our members to extend this announcement to other research oriented faculty that may be interested in becoming members of Sigma Xi, and bring promising Midshipmen researchers to our meetings.

Electric Bacteria from the Marine Environment: Dr. Glaven will be presenting her work on exploiting bacteria's ability to reduce and oxide metals in order to generate energy from the seafloor. Her talk should be quite interdisciplinary, covering areas of electrochemistry, microbiology and biophysics.
The Naval Academy Chapter will take advantage of Sigma Xi Headquarter programs to support local high school activities in science and mathematics.
