Musician 1st Class Benjamin Bokor
Clarinet ~ Alto Saxophone
Musician 1st Class Benjamin Bokor grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University, studying clarinet with Leslie Grimm. In 2011, he completed a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland in jazz studies with Chris Vadala.
While at Northwestern, Bokor spent summers playing in the All-American College Band at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris. After graduating, he spent three years as a high school band director in New Jersey and Chicago. In 2004, he won third place at the North American Saxophone Alliance’s jazz saxophone competition.
Prior to joining the band, Bokor was a member of the U.S. Army Field Band for five years. There he performed on clarinet and saxophone with the concert band, and was a featured jazz soloist and clinician.
In 2008, Bokor auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band, where he reported for duty following Veterans’ training at Great Lakes. He currently performs as a clarinetist with marching band and ceremonial unit. His collateral duties include serving as a Command Fitness Leader Assistant and Librarian's Assistant.
Bokor has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Accession Training Service Ribbon, Navy Rifleman Sharpshooter Ribbon, and the Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon.
