Musician 1st Class Chris Burbank
Musician 1st Class Chris Burbank earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of New Hampshire, where he studied with Dr. Robert Stibler and Dr. Clark Terry. He later attended the Juilliard School, earning a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies, studying with Dr. Eddie Henderson. In May of 2014, he completed his studies at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, earning a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance. While at the Frost School of Music, he studied with Brian Lynch and Terence Blanchard.
While pursuing his master’s in jazz studies at the Juilliard School, Burbank was active on the New York City jazz scene, performing as both a sideman and a leader at such venues as Dizzy’s Coca Cola Club and Smalls Jazz Club. He represented the Juilliard Jazz program as part of their jazz education tours in Costa Rica, Japan, and Spain. While pursuing his doctoral degree at the Frost School of Music, he performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Monterey Jazz Festival. He has performed with Steve Miller, Barry Manilow, Frankie Valli, Vince Mendoza, Carl Allen, Natalie Cole, Dave Liebman, Take 6, Gordon Goodwin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kevin Spacey, Maria Schneider, Danilo Perez, Kenny Barron, Mulgrew Miller, Paquito D’Rivera, and Benny Golson. He has recorded with George Benson, and has performed on television specials for PBS with Gloria Estefan, Bobby McFerrin, Chick Corea, Terence Blanchard, Dave Gruisin, Mark O’Connor, Eric Owens, Shelly Berg, and the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Recently, he was selected as a semifinalist for the 2014 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competition in Los Angeles, CA.
Burbank auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band in 2015. Following successful completion of recruit training at RTC Great Lakes, he reported to Annapolis where he performs with the Marching Band, Ceremonial Units, and Superintendent's Combo. He also serves as Administrative Assistant for the band.
