Eclipse Setup for Labs

Install Eclipse

  1. Visit the Eclipse webpage and click the big Download button.
  2. Download the tar.gz file: eclipse-inst-linux64.tar.gz
  3. Create a folder for eclipse in your home directory. Then move the downloaded file there:

                mkdir ~/eclipse
                cd ~/eclipse
                mv ~/Downloads/eclipse-inst-linux64.tar.gz

  4. Unpack the installer

              tar -xzvf eclipse-inst-linux64.tar.gz

  5. Run the installer

              ./eclipse-installer

Setup a New Lab

  1. Type ~/eclipse/java-oxygen/eclipse on the command line. (add an alias to your .bashrc for easier 'eclipse' calling)

  2. Hit OK if it asks to setup your workspace directory.

  3. Now load the lab's code. Go to File->New->Project...

  4. Select Java Project from Existing Ant Buildfile and click Next.

  5. Click on the Browse... button and find your code/lab*/build.xml file in the browser. Select and click Ok.

  6. Do not check the "Link to the buildfile in the file system" box. Uncheck it if checked. Then click Finish.

  7. A new package should show up in the Package Explorer window.

  8. Done!
