  • incorrect statements, deductions that don't follow logically. a correctness problem is small if it is fixable, and the main structure of the argument remains OK; the problem is larger if the structure of the argument has to be changed to make it work; the problem is really big if the overall claim is wrong, or the whole structure of the argument is wrong.
  • gaps in the logic --- i.e. the claim B follows from A may be true, but it may be far from obvious and deserve justification
  • correct use of notation and nomenclature counts here: e.g. tuples are enclosed in ()'s not {}'s, configurations are state/string pairs like (p,abba) not triples like (p,\lambda,q).

  • picture sharp and well lit; audio is good enough and loud enough to hear clearly; what is meant to be read is actually easy to read;
  • make use of the dynamic aspect of video (i.e. things change, we don't just see a person pointing at a static picture); zoom in on the important thing at the time at which it is important; use the medium to explain things in ways you couldn't with a static written paper explanation.

  • presentation is well-organized -- e.g. state the problem to be solved, describe what needs to be done to solve it, and clearly step through the solution process
  • anything written is legible and clear; clear indications of where exactly in the written material you are referring
  • clear speaking without "uh"s and "like, ya know"s; well-paced, not too fast, not too slow.
Above-and-beyond
  • up to 10% bonus for elements that are above and beyond, e.g. music (if non-distracting), video effects that either promote the presentation or that look cool without being distracting, humor (if non-distracting)
Rule penalties:
  • self-contained
  • ≤ 5 minutes per video
  • each member has a role in each video; roles are properly credited in the video
