Round Tombs near Sadh, eastern Oman
||Round Tomb located in the wadis above the
eastern coast of Oman between Mirbat and Sadh. It is believed that a single
individual is buried at the center of the round rock structure, and that
the size of the tomb is for protection of the corpse from animal scavengers.
|These pyramid-like structures may also be classified as
a type of cairn. It is unknown if these structures were designed for the
burial of the dead, storage of items, or even as crude shelters for people
shepherding nearby. The photo on the right shows the group of structures
located near the round tomb shown above. The photo on the left shows a close-up
of the interior of one of these structures. Each of the structures is open
at the top and are roughly 2 meters in height.
