2010 INFORMS Computing Society Prize
We are proud to announce that Jesus A. De Loera, Jon Lee,
Peter Malkin, Susan Margulies and
Shmuel Onn are the
winners of the 2010 INFORMS Computing Society Prize for our two papers:
[1] Jesus A. De Loera, Jon Lee, Peter Malkin, Susan Margulies. Hilbert's Nullstellensatz and an Algorithm for Proving
Combinatorial Infeasibility.
Proceedings of the 21st International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation
(ISSAC 2008, Linz/Hagenberg, Austria), Association for Computing Machinery, 197-206, 2008. pdf
[2] Jesus A. De Loera, Jon Lee, Susan Margulies, Shmuel Onn. Expressing Combinatorial Optimization Problems by
Systems of Polynomial Equations and Hilbert's Nullstellensatz, Combinatorics, Probability and Computing, volume 18,
issue 04, pp. 551-582, 2009. pdf
In these two papers, we develop a method for solving systems of polynomial equations via Hilbert's Nullstellensatz
and an associated sequence of large-scale, sparse, linear algebra computations. more
2008 Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship:
In Spring 2008, I was awarded the Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship (along with faculty mentor Dr. Chip Martel) for
enhancing and innovating the curriculum for ECS 122A, Introduction to the Design and Analysis of Algorithms.
