Swirling Vortex IV



This animation is the result of solving a dynamical system one obtains from the Swirling Vortex Model of James Serrin. It shows the evolution of three tornado-like solutions of the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations where different colors are used to denote different Reynolds numbers. The details of the mathematical model as well as the Mathematica program that leads to the particle paths can be found in the paper "Visualization of Fluid Flows in Mathematica" by James E. Coleman, Reza Malek-Madani, and David R. Smith.
