Geotagging Photos Phone Setup
Requires photos with EXIF data with the GPS position.
- Privacy settings must allow GPS to include the EXIF data in
photos. As the operating systems pay more attention to
privacy, the required settings have moved around and you might
need to do a Google search to find their current locations and
what you must set.
- iPhone: Settings, Privacy, Location
Services, Camera.
- Android:
- Settings, Secuirty & location, Privacy,
Location on
- Settings, Personal, Location, and
insure it is on.
- The camera app also has a setting:
General, Save location
- For the MotoX (maybe others) you also have to
adjust the camera settings, and turn on
Geo-Tag (also called location) with the
teardrop icon
Be careful running the pictures through
other software, which might strip out the EXIF header information (which might
be desirable for security purposes).
- Photos uploaded to Facebook, and similar sites, generally
have the EXIF data stripped out. Many photo editors
also remove the EXIF data.
- GMAIL will strip out the EXIF data.
- Mailing a smaller version of the file from the phone will
also probably strip out the EXIF data.
Edit to photos in the MICRODEM Load image simple
image editor should preserve the EXI information.
Looking at the file Properties after right clicking of
the file in Windows Explorer shows the Exif
information in the "Details" tab. This appears not to
work when viewing the file on the phone attached as a drive, but does work when you copy
images to the PC.
