Get Projection Parameters

Select parameters to define the projection (saved in a PRJ file, which is not the same as the PRJ file for a shapefile) with this window. You can modify the following, although some options are not enabled for some projections because they are not defined for that projection.

From a vector map, right click and pick the Map Projection options.

Options available depend on the projection in use:

  • UTM zone:
  • Central parallel: this is the line of latitude upon which the projection is based; it need not be the center of the map.
  • Central meridian: this is the line of longitude upon which the projection is based; it need not be the center of the map.
  • Standard parallels: some projections use two standard parallels to distribute the error.
  • Width of map (km)
  • NW corner of map:
  • False easting and northing for projections that use them
  • Quick screen redraw, leaving this window open so you can rapidly interactively change parameters

The cancel button or escape key will abort all changes and leave your map unchanged; hitting the OK button or Enter will redraw the base map with the new projection.

To define your own projection, Open a Vector Map and then modify the parameters.
