The NASA site  https://visibleearth.nasa.gov/collection/1484/blue-marble has monthly satellite images in several resolutions.  It also has a black marble, Night lights image.  Note where you save the file. 

Get the PNG or JPEG in 5400x2700 or 21600x10800 resolution.

File, Tools Identify directory can create a world file for images of the entire earth, such as this.
