Sentinel-2 Hub

- Top right to pick the satellite. If you do not pick a satellite,
you get an Open Street map which is easier to navigate
- Sentinel-2 Products (10 m resolution in VIS and NIR)
- Level-1C: Top-of-atmosphere reflectances in cartographic geometry
(combined UTM projection and WGS84 ellipsoid). Tiles of 100 km2 each one
with a size of approximately 500 MB. These products are
radiometrically and geometrically corrected (including
orthorectification).
- Level-2A: Surface reflectances in cartographic geometry. This
product is considered as the mission Analysis Ready Data (ARD), the
product that can be used directly in downstream applications without the
need for further processing.
- Landsat 8 only, 30 m resolution:
- Does not show the thermal bands, and only has data since 2015 (USGS
has imagery back to the early 1980's).
- Modis (much better options at
https://wvs.earthdata.nasa.gov/)
- DEM (not particularly useful)
- Sentinel-1--radar, very colorful. The options relate to
vertical and horizontal polarization sent and returned. Some
materials change the polarization of the energy when it reflects. This
is higher resolution that Sentinel-2, has more frequent revists, and
penetrates clouds. If you want to do analysis, use SNAP
- Large number of band combinations, and the ability to make your own with
the top "Custom" choice,
either as a choice or three bands, or through a map algebra formula.
More indexes for Sentinel-2 compared to Landsat 8
- The viewer has a scale bar in the lower right corner. You must do
a snip or screen capture to include it..
- With Sentinel-2 level 2-A, there is a scene classification (but no
legend)
- The vegetation index is NDVI , but the
color scale is not particularly helpful
- Cost to download data, so use USGS
Landsat Look, which has less online
capability, but if you know the tile and date you want it works well) if you want to do detailed analysis
- Generate, and then download an unregistered JPEG, which will not have
the scale bar. With care you
can get multiple dates covering the same area. You cannot do any GIS
operations with this image.
