Grid Size Considerations

When gridding point clouds you must pick a grid size.  It will be a compromise among:

The largest grid you can get is limited by MICRODEM, but your computer is likely to complain before you reach that limit.  You can get it with Help, Program limits.

With modern lidar, it is probable that you will have more than one point per grid cell, even with 1 m grid spacing.  This was not true in the past, when a rule of thumb for picking the grid size was one data point per grid cell.  With one point per grid cell, you have little control over the surface.  With more grid points per cell, it is easy to get a DTM/DSM/NVS/CHM, or all of them.
