Z Value Files

Data Manipulation window,  import z value files. These ASCII files have only the z values stored, with no other information. Individual values must be separated by a line return or blank spaces.  This is probably a format of last resort, and has not been tested in years.

IMPORT: If the import file has any header information, you must strip it out before trying to do the import. (Use a word processor that can handle the file size you have.) You must correctly set the values in the header file (number of rows and columns, and data spacing are most critical) for MICRODEM before doing the import. As one example, the SURFER program can produce this kind of data file with its “convert” option.

To import ASCII Z values, you must specify the order for data in the file from the following choices. An incorrect choice will lead to a mirrored data set. The numbers in the examples below indicate the order of values within the file, with 1 the first, to 9 as the last.

LRD: left to right in rows, then next row is down.

LRU: left to right in rows, then next row is up.

DUR: down-up in columns, then next column is to the right.

UDR: up-down in columns, then next column is to the right.
