|Windows itself, and IT departments, combine to make it hard to have
MICRODEM update itself.
There are too many variants of Windows and network security to make this
easy to track down, and the anti-virus companies have also used racial profiling tactics to block automatic downloads.
- Pick "Close program and update" option on
Tools popup from file menu. This will close
MICRODEM and any open maps. It will download the latest MICRODEM EXE from the
USNA server, and if you have the "Backup EXE before web update" option set
on the Web tab of
the options form, it will back up the old
version first in "c:\microdem\backup",
with the date of the program appended to the name. This option
will restart the new MICRODEM. The tools popup also lets you back
up an old EXE if you find a bug, and if your favorite option has been
changed in a way you don't like.
- You must have write permission for the directory with MICRODEM.
- Download from
where you must right click on the links, "save target as", and insure
the location is "c:\microdem".
Insure the browser does not change the file names, like adding "(1)".
Options for new help file:
- Download the latest help file from
Tools popup on
file menu. This should work
with no problems, as long as the help file is not open.
- Download from
where you must right click on the links, "save target as",
and insure the location is "c:\microdem".
- If you cannot see the content, you need to unblock the
help file. Right click on it in Windows Explorer, and
the unblock option should be on the lower right of the form.
