World Vector Outlines Options

This uses a cartographic shapefile grouping; selected by:

This uses the Natural Earth vector files by default, with three levels of detail.  The download should be automatic, but your data must be in c:\mapdata.  You can force a redownload of the data if you encounter problems.  You could create an index grouping for other shapefiles.

If the pixel size on screen is larger than the cutoff for the Small scale data, the small scale data will plot.
If not, and the pixel size on screen is larger than the cutoff for the medium scale date, the medium scale data will plot.
If not, and the pixel size on screen is larger than the cutoff for the large scale date, the large scale data will plot.

If the pixel size on screen is smaller than the cutoff for the large scale date, no data will plot (because it would be too linear).

If you turn off "Variable scale selection", only the small scale data will plot.  It will be much faster, but also has less detail.

The buttons let you select/change the table with rules, and edit the rules.

You can force a redownload of the vector data.

Edit the display characteristics with this form:
  • NAME has the layer's description, and shows what the symbology looks like
  • PLOT--yes or no.  To change, set the action on clicking to "Toggle" and then click on the layer.
  • ORDER is the order is which layers are plotted, from 0 on the bottom to 9 on the top.  If there are multiple layers with the same ORDER, they plot in the order listed in the database.

Similar option for maps of  US for states and counties.
