## Temporary variables

- Suppose you have time in the format HHMMSS, which is an integer.
You cannot do math with it, because 010059 is one second away from 010100.
- You can convert it to hr, min, sec (three integers)
with the
division and remainder computations outlined here.
- Your data series has a vector with all the times in the integer format,
and you would like to turn it into a vector with the hours as a decimal or
floating point number.
- You can do a loop, to cycle through each reading:
- hr=Break up HOURS(i)
- min=Break up HOURS(i)
- sec=Break up HOURS(i)
- dec_hours(i)=hr + min/60 + sec/3600.

- Note that the original times, and the resulting ones, are vectors, but
the intermediate values using to compute the results are scalars. This
means than when you are through, they will have the values from the last
reading, but you don't care because you will not use them again and there is
no reason to waste storage to have them as vectors.
