Indian Ocean Salinity

This file has all the CTD data from the Indian Ocean for a month.  It came from http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/gtspp/best/  (metadata http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/gtspp/ ) and was decompressed from the gz archive.

The file has the same format as the CTD data we looked at previously.

Do the following:

  1. Create a file with the lat, long, highest salinity, and depth of the highest salinity for each CTD cast in the input file.  You will have to deal with the fact that some of the casts used an XBT rather than a CTD.
  2. Create a 3D graph with this data, colored by salinity.

You should start by cleaning up your previous code.  Get the indenting correct and remove any extraneous code.  Then insure that you understand  how you should modify that code to deal with a file with an unknown number of CTD casts, and where you should place the new code to create an output file, write data to that file, and eventually close it.
