Unlike the standard UNIX options, MICRODEM does not automatically delete the compressed file.

Unix Tar and GZIP are often used in sequence, with either two extensions on the file name (.tar.gz) or a single tgz extension.  In this case you must first undo the last operation (GZIP), and  then the first (TAR).

If you select a KMZ file for the Windows zip option:

Some compressed files on the web (e.g. the state geologic map of Arizona from USGS) use the Unix compress program's .Z files. You might be able to unzip this with 7-Zip
