History of the Class of 1915

The United States Naval Academy Class of 1915 was admitted to the Academy in the summer of 1911, numbering 219 midshipmen. During their time on the Yard, the Class of 1915 was witness to several notable events, including the delivery of the first Navy Wright airplane to the Academy in July 1911 and the interment of John Paul Jones in the Chapel Crypt on January 26, 1913. While no major buildings were erected on the Yard during their time, the Class did witness the establishment of the Naval Academy Dairy in 1911, the introduction of the Reina Mercedes as the Academy's permanent station ship 1912, the establishment of the Naval Postgraduate School at Halligan Hall in February 1913, and the installation of the foremast of the battleship U.S.S. Maine. Less than one year after the outbreak of World War I in Europe, the Class of 1915, now numbering 179, graduated on June 4, 1915.
