Eric Nelson Steinbaugh's Winston Churchill: an Introduction and Annotated Bibliography of Works By and About the American Author, comprising a single typescript, was written in 1981. Submitted in fulfillment of Steinbaugh's Doctor of Philosophy from University of Maryland, the dissertation focuses on American novelist and 1894 graduate of the United States Naval Academy Winston Churchill, including a brief biography of Churchill, a list of Churchill's works, and an annotated bibliography of works about him.

Biography of Eric Nelson Steinbaugh

Eric Nelson Steinbaugh was born on July 27, 1943 in Batavia, New York. A two time graduate of University of West Florida (B.A. 1974, M.S. 1975), Steinbaugh served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Steinbaugh received his Ph.D. from University of Maryland in 1981 and served on the faculty of the English Department at the United States Naval Academy from the 1979/1980 academic year through the 1981/1982 academic year. In addition to publishing his dissertation in 1985 as Winston Churchill, A Reference Guide, Steinbaugh co-edited Moods of the Sea: Masterworks of Sea Poetry and Short Stories of the Sea with George C. Solley in 1981 and 1984, respectively.

Eric Nelson Steinbaugh's Winston Churchill: an Introduction and Annotated Bibliography of Works By and About the American Author, comprising a single typescript, was written in 1981. Submitted in fulfillment of Steinbaugh's Doctor of Philosophy from University of Maryland, the dissertation focuses on American novelist and 1894 graduate of the United States Naval Academy Winston Churchill, including a brief biography of Churchill, a list of Churchill's works, and an annotated bibliography of works about him.

Winston Churchill: an Introduction and Annotated Bibliography of Works By and About the American Author is arranged into three chapters, preceded by folders including the dissertation’s approval sheet, abstract, title page, and preface, as well as the curriculum vitae of its author. Chapter I: Introduction includes a chronological biography of Churchill's life, a description of his novels, and examples of contemporary literary criticism. Chapter II: Works by Winston Churchill consists of a list of Churchill's novels, non-fiction, plays, short stories, poems, and newspaper and journal articles. Chapter III: Works about Winston Churchill, arranged chronologically by year and thereunder alphabetically by author, consists of annotated citations for books, book chapters, dissertations, and articles about Churchill spanning from 1898 until 1980.
