POSTED ON: Thursday, February 21, 2019 9:09 AM by Maddie Darbie

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Applications are now being accepted through March 31 for the U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar. Rising high school seniors have the opportunity to choose from three sessions: June 1-6, June 8-13, and June 15-20.

The Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school. Summer Seminar teaches students about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation’s leaders.

Tuition for Summer Seminar is $525 and covers room and board, as well as a variety of materials and activities. Students should plan on bringing extra cash for snacks and souvenirs. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Need-based scholarships are available for tuition and/or travel expenses.

Founded in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy today is a prestigious four-year service academy that prepares midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to be professional officers in the naval service. More than 4,400 men and women representing every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries make up the student body, known as the Brigade of Midshipmen. Midshipmen learn from military and civilian instructors and participate in intercollegiate varsity sports and extracurricular activities. They also study subjects like small arms, drill, seamanship and navigation, tactics, naval engineering and weapons, leadership, ethics and military law. Upon graduation, midshipmen earn a tax-payer funded Bachelor of Science degree in a choice of 25 different subject majors and go on to serve at least five years of exciting and rewarding service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps.
