ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Naval Academy recently announced an updated academic schedule for the spring semester to accommodate COVID-19 protocols.
The decision was made to lengthen winter break, while eliminating a typical spring break this academic year, in an effort to protect the health and safety of midshipmen, faculty and staff upon their return. Spring semester classes are now scheduled to begin Jan. 19, 2021.
This late start will facilitate a phased return of the Brigade of Midshipmen in early January and help facilitate the current realities of travel and restriction of movement (ROM) requirements. An additional three-day weekend was also added to the schedule (April 5).
Spring term classes are now scheduled to end May 5, 2021. This year, Commissioning Week is scheduled to begin immediately following final exams (without the typical break for upperclassmen), and graduation and commissioning is scheduled for Friday, May 28, 2021.
As always, the health of our midshipmen, faculty, staff, and coaches remains the top priority. The current schedule may require adjustments as we continue to adjust to the COVID-19 environment.
Specific details surrounding the return of the Brigade of Midshipmen and other events will be provided at a later date.
